We started a new box, in the above, the purpose was to make new units and accessories; perform new knots like piña de contramaestre, trenzados. Within lots of accessories designed piles with 1, 2 y 3 eyes, and a rig deadeyes.
This time our concern is to reduce the size of the box, making it smaller. If we reduce the size of the box, turn must reduce knots and accessories for clothing use. The desired result will be the reduction of rebar, Burel, toggle, Life, paddle, boat hook and also have plans to introduce a real rig made two piles with three eyes and a rig deadeyes.
As background we use a plywood board whose dimensions are 42 x 30 x 7. Likes choosing a thickness of 7 mm, for the gold nails used are 10 mm, with the thickness of the rope, we avoid projecting the other side of the table. A reproduction paste this table to a size of 42 x 30 mm of a nautical chart of the area of Cadiz, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Rota.
The rope I use is of a smaller diameter than I normally use. In this case I prefer to use a hemp rope 2 mm thick.
Day by day progresses we will see the construction of the box.
In the first photo the table, once we have shown cut, paste the chart above. Some pictures to view:

As I said yesterday, I made not one, but two cones boatswain; one with a hemp rope 2 mm, as the knots are expected to make the box, and the other with hemp rope 1 mm. The difference seen in the photos, with the boatswain made with pineapple 2mm rope, in my opinion, too big for the box. A picture clarifies the issue:
The next step is to produce the various accessories that go to make up the picture, dyed and varnished woods, at first I thought to include the following elements:
- An oar.
- A boathook.
- A burel.
- A rebar.
- A toggle.
- Bluffing port.
- Bluffing starboard.
- Two stacks of three eyes for a real rig.
- Two deadeyes to do, also, a hoist.
- A lifeguard.
Today I finished making all the accessories that I placed on the table except the piles of three eyes, the deadeyes and lifeguards will be for the next installment. As I mentioned above, I reduced their size to make them commensurate with the size of the picture. I made a picture where you can see the lanterns port and starboard without also closing, I have decorated with red ribbon rowing and boat hook to do against the background of the picture, hoping to use this same kick caulking knots later we will.
The two stacks of three eyes to the realization of the actual rig and two deadeyes to make a rig deadeyes, I've finished, stained and varnished. I have also finished with life. Like the above accessories have downsized. This time I made three explanatory pictures:

Today I have not had time to finish the knots; tomorrow I hope to have them ready, at least the fundamental; do once their distribution in the box will indicate which one spare and what we may be missing. Work accumulates, but tomorrow I hope to present the knots and an initial distribution in the box. As always, more tomorrow.
As promised and have finished the basic knots. As we can see in the photo, they are all topped with a red terminal to contrast with the background of the picture. Their names from left to right and top to bottom are:
- Two-strand diamond knot.
- Hangman's knot.
- Bowline.
- Angler's loop.
- Tarbuck.
- Twisted cylindrical.
- Bowline on a bight.
- Three-part crown.
- True-lover's knot.
- Turk's head.
- Spanish bowline.
- Calafate.
I have also made an initial distribution of nodes and accessories in the picture. This placement is not final and we can always make more endless permutations as many as we want. The most important and the first thing that springs to mind is that, at least, we find three or more holes we have to fill with new knots. Most urgent would be the central hollow top and below bowline for breast and calafate
Now we get down to work to make the missing knots in principle I think it will be a carrick, a sheppshank and a tie breast. Another task at hand is to clean up all the knots, removing all leftover whips. Will last you the ropes to tackle that, I think I will use hemp rope 1 mm.
We must not forget the names of the nodes, in this case, I also want to reduce in size. As we used to carry them quality material, thick golden card, it is impossible to print on a home printer, therefore I am forced to go to a print shop.
Continue with these tasks, see how it is becoming and, accordingly, I'm taking several photographs.
________________________________________________________________________________
As I mentioned yesterday, today's tasks are many but intense:
- I went to the printer to print the name of the knots, I cut and shaped corners.
- I have set the strings to the real rig and rig deadeyes.
- I finished off the lanterns.
- I've cleaned up the entire rope knots suprimiéndoles their wealth.
- I made new knots needed to complete the picture.
As always, a picture is better than a thousand words:
The first photo shows the name of the nodes, more or less as they will go distributed in the box. We can see that the corners have been enhanced for better finish name tag.
Name and distribution of knots and accessories. |
In the second picture we present the new nodes that have been required to perform in order to supplement the originally made, they are, from left to right:
- Loop on the bight
- sheppshank .
- Carrick.
- Braiding.
- Spirally twisted.
New knots made |
Finally, a picture with the distribution that we will continue to finish the box make sailors knots, which little by little we get to the end:
Now we can start gluing and nailing the various knots and decorative accessories to the picture. This work is essential, it is going to last over time. Let's take it very quietly to avoid mistakes and bungling, taking care to remove all excess glue and correctly setting the various nodes, thus preventing them from falling the next day.
Since we know the dimensions of the box you can choose the framework for doing or we will if we can, perform them ourselves. We do drawer frames, pine, with a recommended not less than 30 mm minimum line, to prevent knots clash with Crystal. The frame color can be anything you want, we are inclined by dark colors that give a more nautical aspects. One issue that can not be overlooked is the crystal; we must remember that it is not in direct contact with the box, as when we frame a picture, in this case is in the air and you must have consistency. We recommend no less than 3 mm thick, because although the box weighs more we gain in security and this is the first.

The next step that remains is to fix with nails at the bottom knot and secure with glue various accessories. A picture of how the process.
It is noted that there are still some gaps unexpected solution include other accessories to give uniformity to the table. As always a picture of the new accessories that will be included in the box. By the order they appear in the photo are:
- Cabestrante.
- Balde
- Brus
- Tonel
- Apostol
